Closure is something most people desire and I am no different.
As another calendar year nears the end it seems natural to look back and reflect on how the days unfolded.
I acknowledge 2013 as my first year of change after challenging myself to wake up and pay attention.
It took many months and multiple attempts but eventually I found closure on some life situations that had been holding me back for too long.
So it is with satisfaction and a feeling of content that I close the door on these events and walk towards a new year of challenges.
No regrets.
This morning I read this poem on http://smallactofkindness.wordpress.com/ that eloquently expresses the essence of my post today.
You are not your age,
Nor the size of the clothes you wear,
You are not a weight,
Or the color of your hair.
You are not your name,
Or the dimples in your cheeks,
You are all the books you read,
And all the words you speak,
You are your croaky morning voice,
And the smiles you try to hide,
You are the sweetness in your laughter,
And every tear you’ve cried,
You’re the songs you sing so loudly when you know you’re all alone,
You’re the places you’ve been too,
And the one that you call home,
You’re the things that you believe in,
And the people that you love,
You’re the photos in your bedroom,
And the future you dream of,
You’re made of so much beauty,
But it seems you forgot,
When you decided that you were defined,
By all the things you’re not.

I love that poem, the truth of the words really got under my skin; I will be reading it over and over.

That is beautiful! We are so much more than what people see. There is a whole other person on the inside. It’s up to us to be brave enough to let that person go free.

That poem is so true. I spend a good part of my life wishing to be someone other than who I was; the grass was always greener… But with age has come some wisdom; I am who I am because of who I was and my life experiences. Closing the door on past situations can be a good thing as long as we retain the lessons learned from them.
